One Word. NaBloPoMo Day 22

I didn’t attend Blissdom Canada, which is a conference for bloggers that was held in Toronto this year, but a lot of Ottawa bloggers did, and they wrote and tweeted about it. There is a very sharing attitude about information among online writers in Ottawa, and I think from all of the reading that I did, I learned enough to write a post about one of the panel sessions – One Word.

One word to describe myself, my blog, my brand. Here are a few words that have been percolating in my head since I read about One Word.

Sweet
Friendly
Shy
Introspective
Pensive
Thoughtful
Introverted
Reader
Writer
Wife
Mother
Quiet
Anxious
Determined
Listener
Runner
Eater
Daughter

But what I finally settled on was Finola.

Finola is me. I don’t know any other Finolas in person, and the only time I did meet another Finola was at a museum and she was with her Dad and she was one year old, so we didn’t exactly bond about our shared name.

I have sometimes thought that I should rename my blog, but I am pretty sure that I won’t, because Finola’s Blog is me; my blog. I don’t know if Finola is my brand, and I’m not sure if I need or want a brand, but I do know that I like my name. Finola is me.

I confess I think the whole One Word thing is a bit silly. Why would anyone want to describe themselves in just one word? However, in your case I quite like the one word you've chosen. It works very well for you.

  2. John says:

Don't rename it… it somehow suits your style.

I have often thought of changing “Trashy's World” to something more professional sounding as I have been dipping my toes into political stuff lately.

But I always conclude that TW is my brand and I should stick with it.

However, I should put some text in a sidebar explaining the whole “Trashy” thing…

  3. I like Finola as your brand – I mean, really isn't that what a name is? Why else would we agonize on whether to name our child Agatha or Amanda? (or whatever.

And yes, we were at the same performance of Annie yesterday! Too funny.

  4. I agree, don't rename it. Finola is a beautiful name. It's you. This blog is everything about you.

  5. Jamine says:

For similar reasons, I'm Jamine the Yoga Teacher. I mean, who else or how else could I be?
