I am participating in National Blog Posting Month, NaBloPoMo, where I will be posting every day in the month of November.
It was late Saturday morning and it was beautiful outside in Ottawa. We haven’t had a lot of nice fall weather this year, so when we do it just feels great. Tony and our friend Murray were putting up eavestroughing on our house. We have never had it before, but it has been on our mental list of things to do since we moved in here. Now, almost eleven years after, it is finally going up. I’m sure you all have similarly well-intentioned projects, right? This year we were finally motivated to do this job because of our basement renovation. Our driveway runs right alongside our house all the way to the back to the garage. When it rains and water pours from the roof, it all pools in the driveway, right next to the parging of the basement walls. When we renovated, we found that a lot of water had been soaking in over the years, damaging the basement walls. Next summer we will have to rip out our driveway and do some more waterproofing from the outside, but for this winter, with our brand new eavestroughing and much sealing of the walls from the inside, we should be warm and dry.
Being such a beautiful day, we were all outdoors, and I was so happy that we were home because we had unexpected visitors drop by. High school friends Grace and Kim, along with their significant others and Kim’s beautiful children, one of whom sported the most gorgeous “chocolate chip“ freckles I have ever seen. I was so happy to see them all. I see Grace from time to time as she lives in my neighbourhood, but Kim was visiting from out of town and I hadn’t seen her in years. They both look just the same as they ever did. We visited and chatted and the kids all played. At one point, Grace told me that I should be blogging this and I thought that was an excellent idea.
A bright warm fall day and a visit from some old friends made a bright warm day an awful lot brighter and warmer.
