No Pink for Profit

Several weeks ago I joined Laurie’s team to run in the CIBC Run for the Cure on October 3. Laurie is a very talented writer who has a great blog called Not Just About Cancer

Laurie’s story is a really interesting one that makes me look at myself and wonder if I could have coped even half as well as Laurie has if I were in her shoes. She is a bit of a medical marvel and you can read a summary of her story here:

I feel so honoured to be a part of Laurie’s team called No Pink for Profit along with 36 (at last count!) other fabulous women.

I really don’t enjoy asking people for money, and that is why with only ten days left before the race, I am nowhere near my fundraising goal. This is a great cause though, and so I am linking to my personal donation page here if you would kindly consider making a contribution. http://www.runforthecure.com/site/TR?px=1383100&pg=personal&fr_id=1101

As far as training for this event has gone, well it hasn’t. It is typical for me to run in the May Race Weekend, and then despite my best intentions, stop running once the weather gets too warm. I have executed this plan to perfection yet again this year. Now with the cooler weather, I have just recently jumped back into training mode, but I think it is too late for me get any personal bests this time around. In fact I would be quite happy to walk this event with one or more of the many lovely women on my team.

Looking forward to seeing many of you October 3.

Thank you,

Finola

I'm planning to walk it. I feel off the running train in August.

Good for you! I “talk” with Laurie on the internet but I have never met her. I did the walk for Breast Cancer Action (http://www.bcaott.ca/). I got involved with them as a patient in '08 (pre-op info session) and then when I was done chemo and radiation, I joined the board. They are a small local charity but they do good work, even if they do use an inordinate amount of pink!

Every little bit helps. But I have to agree – I hate asking for donations.

I wish you the best in raising money for cancer research! You guys are wonderful! 🙂

Good luck with the run and your fundraising.

I've just done a similar thing – ran 9km two weeks ago and raised money for Cure Cancer Australia. I didn't think of it as asking for money but rather giving people an opportunity to donate. It's their choice. I've also been selling chocolates (and eating too many myself).
