Some Thoughts on a Friday

One week post eye surgery, and after today I will be able to stop taking antibiotic drops and steroid drops every few hours. I will still need the lubricating drops for a while longer because eyes tend to be dry for a while after this surgery. That has definitely been the case for me, though it is getting better slowly.

Plus I won’t have to wear my ridiculous-looking goggles for sleeping anymore. The goggles consist of just the plastic eye pieces with air holes in them, and then you get to tape them onto your face. Yes. Tape. They kept falling off my face in the night and they were incredibly uncomfortable, so I had switched to wearing sunglasses as I slept, which is only marginally less ridiculous-looking. This part was not the glamourous part of the surgery.

And the best part about being one week after surgery is that I can start wearing eye make-up again. It’s not that I wear a lot, but a little eyeliner and mascara do a lot for me. In honour of this, I may just go shopping for some new make-up and a new eyelash curler. I would love your recommendations as I’m not much of a girly-girl with such things.

I have been very happy with this surgery so far. I feel so much more comfortable throughout the day not having my glasses falling down my nose, and I like that people can see my eyes, even though they are still somewhat red and naked. I like the look so much better that I am even wearing a saucy ponytail today, which I never did very often with glasses. For some reason it seemed very severe before, but now it looks….kicky, if I may say so.

In other news I have been posting more frequently and my Google Analytics numbers have been thanking me. I don’t worry too much about numbers, but watching a trend going upwards is very motivating to me. I think I have posted more this week than I have since last winter when I first started this blog. I hope I can keep it up.

In still other news, my brother and his girlfriend are leaving for a two year stint in Nunavut early next week and this is the weekend of all of the good-bye parties. I am so happy for them, and so sad that they will be so far away. Luckily for us they will be able to travel back relatively frequently, but it is just so darned far away. We are going to miss them so very much, but wish them an AWESOME adventure together.

  1. Glad to hear you are healing nicely Finola. I bet you are working the sunglasses at night look – very Cory Hart.

  2. Finola says:

    Thanks Laura 🙂
I did look almost as cool as Cory you know…

  3. Stella says:

I have a friend in Nunavut! Bet they'll meet eventually, too.

I use Clinique mascara, eyeliner… A few other things too. Good quality and hypo allergenic.

  4. Pauline says:

That is great that the surgery appears to have been a success for you! My husband was thinking of doing it as well, but it is beyond our current price range.

As for makeup, The Body Shop has some good ones that aren't tested on animals and easier on the eyes than other cosmetics. 🙂

  5. So happy that the surgery is working out really well for you! (Those googles sound might hilarious though)

As for mascara – I love Dior Show. (But Pauline is right …. probably rubbed into the eyes of monkeys for testing! gah!)

  6. I was hoping your recovery would go well. Since I'm always thinking about doing it I always want to see successful outcomes 🙂

    Camp G&G…lol.

    Got to love the spammers,eh?

  7. Finola says:

Stella, Cool about your Nunavut friend. Whereabouts?

Pauline, Let me know if your husband ever does go through with the surgery. Would be curious how it went. Also, I am skeptical about Body Shop claims (as a former employee!)

Julie, Dior sounds nice. Is it very expensive? And the goggles rocked 🙂

Challenges, Thanks! And gah, I was only away for two nights and so much spam!!
