This morning Tony and I participated in the Canoe Relay in the Riverkeeper Triathlon at Britannia Beach. Together we canoed 5km, then Tony biked 20km, and I ran 5km. The competition was much stiffer this year compared to last year. Even though our times were similar to last year’s, we placed lower. We were 5th out of a total of 9 canoe relay teams, but 4th out of 5 in the co-ed canoe relay. It was a bit disappointing.
But this is a fantastic event. There are seventeen different races that take place all on the same day, but it is so well organized that there isn’t confusion or chaos. Everything ran very smoothly, even considering that they had to move the starts and finishes to most of the water events last night due to the low water this year. It was really very shallow and it was a bit unbelievable.
We rented a beautiful light weight canoe and race paddles from Trailhead. It was such a pleasure to paddle compared to our old heavy clunker of a canoe that we take camping. We would just love to buy one like it when they sell of their rentals at the end of the year.
Just for the record, we did not need that Rescue Truck that is in the picture behind us.
