RunBlog Week #3 – 12 Weeks to Go

I had a fabulous week.

I had a great interval run on Tuesday. For the first time I was able to start at a decent pace, and then speed it up for the last couple of intervals. In the first few weeks of doing my intervals, I was a bit discouraged because I would usually have to slow down a little after the first few intervals. This run felt really good.

Then I had a great tempo run on Thursday, running at the middle of the range given to me by my trainer, instead of at the slower end of the range. I really felt this week like my few weeks of targeted training have made a difference.

I’m supposed to run 16K this weekend and I’m going to go for it. I will not plan in advance to cut a little bit off.


I ran 15.7K on Saturday and I felt pretty great I have to say. It was long, and there was a tough wind, which at times was a huge help, and at other times was an awful hindrance. At one point I had my longest uphill climb right into the wind, and it was really tough, but knowing that I could walk for a minute at the top kept me going. I had some Gu at the halfway mark, and it was Gu-y….but I think it may have helped me not fade at the very end.

My time was 1h, 42 minutes. I find that quite respectable, and I am very happy.

    I'm so impressed with your times. I used to run, and you're way faster than I ever was. (I remember one day I passed someone, and I was so pleased with myself, thinking I'd finally reached the point where I was starting to pass people. But it turned out it was a one-off – it never happened again.)

    Great job, Fin! I'm so impressed. 🙂 I'm going to be doing a run this afternoon with another friend of mine who is also training for a 10K. I'm hoping that it's not raining when we go. 😛 We're going to do a 6.4K, I think.

    Extra bonus points for going the distance in that wind. Hills are bad enough but it must have felt like mountain climbing at times. Enjoy your rest day, you've earned it.

    Zoom, Thank you! I have a training program that is helping me with my speed, and it is even more effective than I had hoped. I'm really pleased. 🙂
